I would like to take a moment and welcome everyone back to a new PTA year!! As we send our children off to school in the morning and become inundated with the beginning of school rituals, we as PTA volunteers, work diligently to get our PTAs off to a good start as well. It is a lot of fun renewing friendships and catching up as we begin the year. We are excited to see the smiling faces of the students and staff eager to get started on another school year.
We also need to remember that in these turbulent economic times, it is more important than ever that we come together as a united group of PTA units, all concerned about the welfare of our children. As the state budget is slashed, so is the funding to our public schools. We need to get back to the basics of PTA and increase our advocacy of children at a grassroots level. It is what makes us different from other parent organizations, that we can come together as unified group to support the purpose of PTA that we are here to support the welfare of children and youth in the home, school, community and place of worship.
I would like to take a moment to welcome several new PTAs to our Central Region family. In Hamilton County, we welcome Tri County Education Center PTA and Eman School PTA. In Marion County, we welcome Theodore Potter Spanish Immersion School PTA, School 91 PTA, and Sidener Academy PTA. In Shelby County, we welcome Morristown Elementary School PTA and in Switzerland County, we welcome Switzerland County Elementary School PTA.
Central Region Indiana PTA board members are always ready to help you with any questions or concerns that you may have. Serving you by my side are members of the Central Region team: Sonja Canterbury, Elleen Laughlin, Michelle Sigg, Sue Switzer, and Maria Wright. All units should make plans to attend as valuable information will be shared to help you get your year off to a good start. Both officers and committee chairs are encouraged to participate in this training as there will be something for everyone! Attendees should enter through Door 1 and go to the East Cafeteria. President's Packets, including your membership cards, will also be distributed at this training session. (Warren Township schools can expect to receive their packets prior to the 8/2 start of school.) We hope to see everyone there!

Central Region is blessed to have 3 active councils. A PTA council is made up of 3 or more PTAs/PTSAs in a given area, city or county. Units serve individual schools, where as councils maintain close working relations with school administration, providing an association where units can work with school boards and administrators on problems affecting all schools within the council boundaries.
The purpose of a council is to provide trainings and coordination of programs of the member units. Assisting in the development of future PTA leaders is one of the council’s major functions. Delegates, representing each unit, participate in council meetings and promptly relay information from the council to their unit. Membership in council is voluntary, but PTA units are encouraged to join because of the added benefits of communication provided by council.
The council is a service group to the local unit. They do not dictate or legislate for local units. This means that councils neither set up rules nor take action involving member units without their consent. Councils are bound by their own bylaws and must work within the framework of the PTA purposes, recognizing that they are the foundation of all PTA work.
The 3 councils in Central region are Marion County Council of PTAs, Perry Township Council of PTAs, and Warren Township Council of PTAs. Click one of the Council tabs below to find out more about your council.

Membership Dues for Marion County Council of PTAs are only $15.00 per year per unit. To become a member, please contact Sonja Canterbury, 4402 Shelbyville Rd, Indianapolis, In. 46237. All Marion County and surrounding county PTAs are welcome to become members of Marion County Council of PTAs.
