NATIONAL PTA ALERT 7-8-08
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATOR TODAY

Congress is currently considering two important juvenile justice delinquency prevention bills and a child abuse prevention bill. PTA needs your help in urging Congress to pass these bills before the Congressional session ends. Voice your support for juvenile justice and child abuse prevention by visiting the action alert links below, which have specific instructions and information on these important bills.

Reauthorize the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA) (S. 3155)

Ask Your Representative to Co-Sign the Youth PROMISE Act (H.R. 3846)

Reauthorize the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act

LEGISLATIVE ALERT!!!

The Indiana General Assembly is having discussions about property tax controls that will hurt funding .  Contact your legislators and give them this message:

  1. Cap property taxes on residential property at 2%.  Provide replacement revenue for the money schools lose.
  2. Do not support referendum for school buildings.  Ohio has demonstrated that referendums do not work.
  3. Support a mixture of property taxes (stable revenue) and local income and sales tax, which are regressive taxes.  Have a rainy day fund to support any loss of revenue from sales or income taxes when the economy slows.

This is a crucial time for education in Indiana , specifically funding.  The impact that House Bill 1001 will have on our schools is devastating.  Please ask supporters of children and public education to contact their Legislators.

And join us for the Conference below and a Rally in the Rotunda. See flyer here
